Pariyatti (Pāli) in Theravada Buddhism refers to the theoretical study of the Buddha's teaching as preserved within the suttas and commentaries of the Pāli canon. It is often contrasted with patipatti which means to put the theory into practice and pativedha which means penetrating it or rather experientially realising the truth of it.
